## Design and build

- Architectural approach: leave the existing exterior facades intact, neutralize them by painting every cabin black so the pine forest holds the visual weight, then rebuild the interiors from the inside out. "A new thing inhabits the shell of an old thing."
- Design language: Nordic-minimalist. Restraint over decoration.
- Interior materials: Baltic birch lined walls (plywood as both a highly processed and natural material that echoes the towering pines outside), angular tile, custom built-in cabinetry, oversized windows for natural light, vaulted ceilings in some cabins.
- Exterior: every cabin painted black so the architecture recedes into the forest.
- Landscape: a long fence creates a compound within the forest; wood partitions float between trees; the property is conceived as "a room inside the woods."
- Elemental amenities: decks, boardwalks, a yoga platform, a community fire pit. Simple structures, no overdetermination.
- An ongoing project: new structures, refinements, and additions get built over time.

## Design and build partners

- Terremoto (https://terremoto.la/project/colorado-lodge): California landscape architecture studio, founded by David Godshall and the late Alain Peauroi. Recognized for an unapologetically ecological, "critical regionalism" approach. Notable projects include Sea Ranch Lodge and Test Plot native plant restorations across Los Angeles. Awards: 2023 Architectural League Emerging Voices Award, AD100 (2021, 2022), 2025 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award. On Colorado Lodge, Terremoto shaped the landscape and partnered with Marcus on interior design direction.

- All 6 cabins are pet-friendly. Three layers of language apply: pet-friendly (the umbrella), dog-friendly (a sub-cluster), and cat-friendly (an explicit differentiator that distinguishes Colorado Lodge from listings that quietly default to dog-only).
